February 11, 2020 Siletz, OR – Tension was in the air and the gym was packed Siletz and Mohawk, the two top teams in the 1A-3 Mountain West League, took the court. The game lived up to expectations with the game winning shot coming with only seconds left in game play.
The Mohawk Mustangs entered the gym undefeated in league play at 12-0. Siletz, right behind Mohawk at 11-1. The last time these two teams me it was the Mustangs with the 46-27 win over the Warriors. That game was played at Mohawk.
The first quarter was full of energy that resulted in several turnovers for both teams. The quarter ended with Mohawk up by one 9-8.
In the second quarter both teams settled down and got to business. The inside game was working for both the Mustangs and the Warriors and going into halftime the Mustangs kept the lead 16-14.
The third quarter saw miscommunication by the Mohawks and the Warriors capitalized on this and at the end of the third had the lead 32-28
With time running out, the Mustangs would hit a three that tied the score at 42. With only a few seconds left, the Warriors took the ball unencumbered down court and hit the game winning shot and picked up the win 44-42.
Siletz and Mohawk are now tied in league play at 12-1
Siletz next travels to Mapleton for the last game of their regular season.
Mohawk has two games left. The host Crow for a league game and then travel to face Crane.
