Nov. 4, 2016 Sandy, OR – Wow, that’s a lot of numbers but they are significant because lower seeds are making a statement.

The Central Panthers (5-4, 4-2,) headed to Sandy High School to face the Pioneers (6-3, 6-1).  Not only were the Panthers the underdog, unless you are a diehard fan, but also their record was indicative of an average team.  The Pioneers, on the other hand, had won six out of their last seven games and had high hopes of advancing in the 5A playoffs.

However, always beware of the underdog.

The first quarter was evenly matched and the Panthers had a slight 10-7 lead as the second quarter started.  The second quarter belonged to Central.  They outscored Sandy 21-0 and headed to the locker rooms at halftime up 31-7.

Second halfs are about making adjustments.  Neither team was able to score in the third.  In the fourth, the Panthers put another seven on the board but the Pioneers were kept off the board again.

Central picked up the 38-7 win and advances to the quarterfinals.

They will be facing another lower seed, the #14 Redmond Panthers, who surprised the #3 Silverton Foxes with a 35-27 win.

Game is set for Nov. 11 at 7pm and will be played at Central High.  Panthers vs. Panthers, should be fun.
