December 19, 2017 Salem, OR – The first round of the Capitol City Classic had some exciting games. One of which was the match-up between the Cleveland High School Warriors (Portland, OR) and the Red Mountain High School Lions (Mesa, AZ).

After watching a few minutes of the first quarter it was obvious this would be a great game.  Both teams were evenly matched and at it showed on the board as the Lions had a one point lead over the Warriors 15-14 at the end of the quarter.

The battle continued throughout the second quarter and going into the half Cleveland had a two point advantage over Red Mountain 24-22.

Both teams continued to be aggressive on the boards and made few mistakes and at the end of the third quarter the Warriors were up by one over the Lions 39-38.

Finding themselves down by one, 50-49, and with less than thirty seconds to go in the game, Cleveland had the ball and chose to go for the last shot and the win.  The Warriors made their move and the next thing the spectators knew, the Warriors were up by one, 51-50.

However, they left plenty of time for the Lions to get off one last shot.  A strong drive resulted in a foul putting the Lions on the line for a one and one.  The first shot missed and Cleveland grabbed the rebound and ran out the last few ticks on the clock resulting in a 51-50 win.
