The first match-up of the year for the hosting Toledo Boomers started slow. The visiting Nestucca Bobcats also started the game as if there was some sort of mud hindering game play. Ok, that might be an exaggeration but at the end of the first quarter the score was 0-0.
Both teams would finally find the endzone. The Boomers were pushing towards the endzone but sputtered a few yards short and had to settle for a field goal. Going into the half Toledo was up 10-6.
The Boomers made a few changes that resulted in shutting down the Bobcats in the third and resulted in another 12 points. At the end of the third Toledo was up 22-6.
The fourth quarter belonged to the Boomers. They scored another nine points including an approximate 94 yard TD run at the start of the fourth.
Toledo picked up the win 31-6.
Neither team looked great, which is to be expected for the first game of the season.
Toledo next travels to Knappa to face the Loggers. The Loggers also picked up their first season win over Grant Union 24-14.
Nestucca plays at home against Lowell. Lowell defeated Siletz 54-12.
