September 21, 2018 Toledo, OR – The Toledo Boomers defeated the visiting Central Linn Cobras 52-35 in a non-league game.
The Cobras brought with them a three game winning streak as they took the field against the Boomers. They averaged 33 points per game (ppg) and held their opponents to a little over nine ppg.
Toledo’s previous two games have been tough. They lost to Knappa at home 70-28 and lost at Monroe 54-26.
In this game against Central Linn the Boomers had the ball early in the first quarter and with 7:52 left, had put ten points onto the board including a possible school record field goal. Some say it was a 41 yard field goal, others say it was 43. We are still waiting for the official word. The Cobras were having difficulties and were still looking for their first points.
A short time later, Toledo found the end zone again. At the 6:45 mark in the first quarter they led Central Linn 16-0.
The Cobras finally got on the board after finding an opening in the defense. With 1:56 left in the first quarter the Boomers led 16-6. Then, at the 10:02 mark in the second quarter, Central Linn found took broke through the Toledo defense and ran into the end zone for another six, The point after attempt was good and the Cobras were closing in on the Boomers, 16-13.
Looks like we have a game.
Next to score was the Boomers. They set up the defense with a few short and out passes then threw one over the middle where the Toledo receiver made a great catch and easily scored. Boomers led 22-13 with 8:36 left in the first half.
The Cobras would score one more time before the halftime but Toledo scored twice and had a commanding 42-20 lead entering halftime. I say commanding because their defense tightened up an their offense was in sync.
Both teams made needed adjustments for the second half but it was too late for Central Linn. The Boomers were in control and picked up a great home win.
