Nov. 11, 2016 Salem, OR – Round one of the 3A/2A/1A girl’s soccer had the Blanchet Catholic Cavaliers facing the Santiam Christian Eagles in a game played at the Salem Academy Stadium. Blanchet entered the game with an impressive 13-2 overall record. Their only losses were non-league games at the start of the season against Cascade Christian and Catlin Gabel.
Santiam entered the game with an overall record of 8-7. So, they would have to play a great game in order to defeat the Cavaliers.
Both teams played well but Blanchet was quicker to the ball and their field spacing was better. The Eagles’ keeper did a very good job defending the goal but was unable to stop two balls from finding the back of the net. The Cavaliers’ keeper had a pretty quiet night. There were a limited number of shots on goal due to the relentless pushing on the other end.
Blanchet picked up the 2-0 win over the Eagles and advance to the second round of the playoffs. They will now play the Creswell Bulldogs Saturday, November, 5 at Creswell (Creswell Middle School 655 West Oregon Ave). Game time is set for 2pm.
