September 18, 2018 Newport, OR – The Woodburn Bulldogs pick up season win number six and league win number four with 4-0 win over the hosting Newport Cubs.
Last year Woodburn entered the OSAA 5a State Playoffs in the #9 position. They went on to take the state title by defeating #2 Corvaillis 2-1.
Newport, last year, entered the OSAA 4A State Playoffs also at the #9 position. They defeated #2 Stayton 2-1 in the title game.
Two strong teams entering what should have been an intense game. And it was intense, physically. Several yellow cards were given but it was the Bulldogs who scored two quick goals and never looked back. The Cubs’ keeper was kept busy all night and made some great saves. However, on offense, Newport had only a few shots on goal and none were very close to scoring.
Up next for Woodburn is a home game against Cascade.
Newport next faces Philomath on the road.
