December 29, 2017 Salem, OR – The Columbia Basin Hawks second half surge led them to a 74-50 victory over the hosting Chemeketa Storm.
However, the final score does not really tell the full story.
In the first quarter both teams were evenly matched. Chemeketa controlled the ball well and focused on play making. Columbia Basin got off to a slow start and could not get into any type of rhythm. At the end of the first quarter the Hawks and Storm were tied at 17.
In the second quarter the Hawks were starting to hit their shots while the Storm were struggling. Going into the half Columbia Basin had a nine point lead, 39-30.
The third quarter belong to Columbia Basin. They stepped up their defense, which rattled the Storm a little. On offense the Hawks were starting to light up the net and outscored Chemeketa 21-9. At the end of three they now lead 58-39.
Columbia continued to find the bottom of the net in their fourth while the Storm’s inability to make shots was a major factor for their downfall.
