Nov. 4, 2016 Salem, OR – Let the playoffs begin! Willamette University’s McCulloch Stadium was the place to be Friday night as the #9 Amity Warriors and the #8 Blanchet Catholic Cavaliers battled to see who would move on to the quarter finals of the 3A state playoffs.
Amity(6-2, 4-1) entered the game as slight underdogs due to the fact they lost their last two games after winning their previous six, which included a forfeit.
Blanchet (7-2, 4-1) took the field with confidence due to their six game winning streak.
The game started as expected with two teams seeded so closely. At the end of the first quarter neither team was able to find and capitalize on a seam. It would not be until 5:36 left in the first half that the Cavaliers would find the endzone. The point after touchdown (PAT) was good and Blanchet was up 7-0 over the Warriors.
There was no other scores until early in the fourth quarter when, once again, Blanchet would find the endzone and hit the PAT and with 9:46 left in the game, the Cavaliers were up 14-0.
The final points of the game would come after about a six yard run straight up the middle by the Cavaliers. PAT good and Blanchet was up 21-0.
Amity was unable to get anything going and would fall to the Cavaliers 21-0.
One area that both teams struggleg with was passing. And unless you have a strong running game, you need to be able to pass the ball.
With the win Blanchet Catholic now faces a tough undefeated Dayton Pirate team. Game time is set for Nov. 11 at 7pm in Dayton.
